Co-design the development process and author the XML specifications that produce the Active Agenda, open source, browser-based software. Author the Active Agenda website content and support documentation wiki. Authored or co-authored multiple industry articles on the subject of operational risk management. Currently author a monthly column for Occupational Hazards magazine.

Performed all aspects of business development during Reddeck’s startup phase. Authored the Reddeck business plan which secured startup capital for the business. Acted as the chief product designer for the ERP application and coordinated Reddeck’s website, documentation, and education development. Developed deployment partner alliances and global opportunities.

Founded Emprise, Inc. following the closure of Dole Food Company’s Dried Fruit and Nut Division. Managed the “tail” of workers’ compensation and select general liability claims associated with the Dole business unit. Developed integrated risk management programs for companies such as: Ruiz Food Products, Pirelli Armstrong Tire, and Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream.

Worked closely with agency ownership to transform a traditional insurance agency into a team based, consultative, risk management solution provider. Consulted to Dreyer’s/Edy’s Grand Ice Cream on the design, development, and implementation of a national risk management process with special emphasis on plant ownership and ammonia process safety. Successfully demonstrated the concept of utilizing Active Agenda as a value-adding product and service tied to insurance transactions.

Risk Manager @ Dole Dried Fruit and Nut Company

August 1995-June 1997

Responsibilities included the design and facilitation of safety and casualty insurance programs for three processing plants, one fruit grading facility and two dehydrators in California. Primary focus was on the development of non-existent administrative systems within a newly consolidated plant with an emphasis on floor ownership. Managed the division's workers' compensation, general, auto and product liabilities through third party administration and employee education.

Western Region Risk Manager @ The Häagen-Dazs Company

April 1993-August 1995

Development and facilitation of safety, environmental, Department or Transportation, and casualty insurance management programs for manufacturing facilities and distribution centers throughout CA, AZ, and TX. Delivered ongoing training to leadership, management, staff, and line employees on topics relating to risk management practices and team building techniques. Provided staff support to all facilities and management oversight of the company's third party administrator relative to casualty insurance administration.

Safety and Environmental Manager @ Dole Dried Fruit and Nut Company

July 1991-April 1993

Designed, developed, and implemented safety and environmental programs for six manufacturing plants and one distribution center throughout California. Formulated and expanded the divisional training resources. Managed the division's workers' compensation line of insurance through third party administrator coordination and plant employee development strategies. Achieved a sustainable annual reduction in workers' compensation costs from $385,000 to $30,000 in one of California's most difficult environments.

Site Safety Engineer @ Chemical Waste Management, Inc.

July 1989-July 1991

Administrated the health and safety programs for the United States' second largest hazardous waste treatment, storage, and disposal facility. Conducted industrial hygiene surveys of new and ongoing processes, analyzed incoming waste streams. Provided employee orientation and safety training. Facilitated semimonthly supervisor/lead person meetings and administered workers’ compensation claims.
